MHUG Scholarship Supports Future Hydropower Leaders
Are you interested in a career in hydropower?

MHUG’s mission is to promote safe, reliable, economical, and environmentally responsible hydropower in the Midwest by providing members with opportunities to learn, share information, and network with others in the industry. We’re looking to help develop the next generation of talent to keep our Midwestern hydroelectric projects producing safe and reliable power.

The Midwest Hydro Users Group (MHUG) scholarship can help you achieve your goals.
- You must be a high school senior or older, accepted or enrolled at a Midwestern 2-year or 4-year college, university, technical school, trade school, or apprenticeship program in an eligible state (Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, Wisconsin).
- You must be interested in a program that supports the hydropower industry (examples provided in the application).

Selection and Award
Scholarship applicants will be notified by March 31, 2027.
If selected, funds will be released directly to the recipient’s school’s financial office in August 2027. Please note that MHUG has a spring meeting in the Midwest in late April, and award winners will be invited to attend for an award ceremony. Winning is not contingent on attending the spring meeting.
- The 4-year program award amount is $2,500
- The 2-year program award amount is $1,000
Acceptance of funds constitutes permission for MHUG to use the recipient’s name, photograph (e.g. headshot and/or picture during spring meeting award ceremony), and scholarship story for the purpose of scholarship promotion.

How to Apply
All required information, including the student application, completed appraisal form, and a copy of all official transcripts, must be received by the deadline.
You’ll need to complete the application, submit your official transcript, and have one appraiser/reference provide a personal recommendation.
The Appraisal Form is required from a recent advisor, coach, teacher/professor, or work/volunteer supervisor (this should not be a family member). Applicants are responsible for sending the form to their appraiser.
For your copy of transcripts: Students currently or previously enrolled in a 2-year or 4-year college, university, technical school, trade school, or apprenticeship program must include all transcripts of grades from each school attended. Transcripts must be emailed to MHUG@hydrofoundation.org
Official transcripts must display the student’s name, the school name, grade, credit hours earned for each course (as appropriate), and the term each course was taken.
